My days in Honolulu involved sipping cocktails, watching sunsets and feeling the Hawaiian breeze on my skin.
Some of my favourite moments in Honolulu include:
Swimming at Waikiki Beach
We spent the best part of a day swimming in the ocean at Waikiki beach. The waves are big, the ocean is warm and the sand is golden. The beach boasts excellent views of Diamond Head which makes the experience even more special. There are so many tourists at the beach which brings a lively and fun atmosphere. If swimming’s not for you, you could try surfing, stand-up paddle-boarding, or just sunbathe on the sand.
Attending my First Luau
I really wanted to experience a Luau while in Hawaii. There seemed to be so many different Luaus to choose from. Nevertheless, we went to the Starlight Luau at the Hilton. We chose this one because it was the closest one to our hotel. The Luau is on the rooftop of the Hilton hotel. From there, you are treated to amazing views of Waikiki Beach and the magical Hawaiian sunsets. When you arrive, you are greeted with Mai Tais and an extravagant Hawaiian style buffet. Shorty after dinner, the Luau begins which showcases hula dancing, fire dancers, and much more.
Riding the Waikiki Trolley
The Waikiki Trolley is a great way to explore the city of Honolulu. There are lots of different lines to ride which take you to different areas such as Historic Honolulu, Waikiki, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbour and more. If you don’t feel like walking in the heat, this is the perfect way to ensure you see everything during your Honolulu visit.
Visiting Pearl Harbour
Events which took place in 1941 in Hawaii, and their significance, will never be forgotten. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour is what led the USA to officially join WW2. Today, Pearl Harbour is free to visit. This includes a small museum and several outdoor exhibits. However, you can also pay to see extra exhibits. An hour was enough time for us to look around before catching the bus back to Waikiki. I feel like we learnt and seen enough during our visit to Pearl Harbour but I’m sure many people could spend an entire day here.
Hiking Diamond Head
If you feel like a small hike during your visit, Diamond Head is the perfect for you. I found this hike extremely easy, even under the heat of the Hawaiian sun. The hike up the volcanic crater boasts amazing mountain views as well as outstanding views of downtown Honolulu. When we reached the top, we were rewarded with a mini rain shower which was entirely completely welcomed as it cooled us down significantly.
Drinking Beer at the Local Breweries
Waikiki Brewing and Maui Brewing are both situated in Waikiki. The beer was ice cold and delicious. And it’s a fact that beer tastes better when it’s sunny…
